Department's Head's Speech
The Head of the department, members, and the employees of the department of Pharmacognosy welcome your visit to the department's page, as the Department of Pharmacognosy at the faculty of Pharmacy at Helwan University aims to improve health by providing the country with highly qualified pharmaceutical cadres capable of competing internationally and contributing to the application of the scientific and research method based on evidence in the study and exploitation of available natural resources and contribute to the economy based on knowledge and learning. Pharmacognosy is one of the basic sciences of Pharmacy, on which the rest of the sciences for the manufacture of medicines were based, as it relied heavily on natural sources to discover new drugs since the first decades. The great progress in various aspects of basic sciences in pharmacy, including natural products science, and the demand from society in such a field has led to the need to graduate students equipped with knowledge and skills in this discipline. In line with the general policy of the College of Pharmacy for excellence in the field of teaching and scientific research, the department of Pharmacognosy is constantly seeking to develop its study plans that achieve the objectives of the college in general and the objectives of the department in particular to keep pace with developments in this field. The department offers several courses at different levels of study in the bachelor's degree, such as courses for natural products, and the department also cooperates with other departments in graduate programs. The department of Pharmacognosy has evolved to include in its courses various modern biotechnology methods for the production of drugs such as tissue culture, pharmaceutical biology, biotransformation and genetic engineering. The department of Pharmacognosy includes a group of faculty members with professional and academic experience who contribute to the service of the college, the university and the community, as their research interests vary in different fields related to the development of drug discovery from natural sources and evidence-based health practices. The department aspires to continue raising the level of academic education and its outputs to suit the requirements of the labor market, and to contribute to achieving the vision of the college and the university with the support of faculty members and administrative staff.
